Public hot springs with a page

Places on public land with checked access facts, by straight-line distance from Santa Fe. Road distance is longer, often much longer in the mountains.

Santa Fe lies at the southern end of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains on the east side of the Rio Grande Rift, the structure that controls most of New Mexico's thermal springs. To the west, across the Rio Grande, the Jemez Mountains hold springs linked to the Valles Caldera, where the Santa Fe National Forest's Jemez Ranger District surrounds the Valles Caldera National Preserve, a National Park Service unit. The usual route is U.S. 84/285 north to Pojoaque, then New Mexico 502 to Los Alamos and New Mexico 4 into the mountains. To the north, U.S. 84/285 continues to Espanola, and New Mexico 68 follows the Rio Grande to the Taos area, where the Bureau of Land Management manages the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument.

Winter affects the higher routes. In the Jemez Mountains, the Forest Service closes Forest Road 376 to San Antonio Hot Springs when snow makes it impassable, usually in December, and reopens it on July 1. The New Mexico Department of Transportation reports winter road conditions statewide on NMRoads, and New Mexico 4 crosses high country around the caldera where snow and ice are common in winter. Summer fire restrictions can close parts of the national forest.
